Sam Jacobs reviews Round 9 League v Central District

Well what a game of football.
In what was a really up and down day, we we’re all very pleased to end up on the right side of the ledger, beating Central District by 6 points.
The first quarter we just did not come to play, and credit to Central they put some real heat on us and if not for some bad kicking from them, the margin could have been even bigger. We were beaten around the contest and stoppage and we just couldn’t get the ball past halfway. Even though we gave the first goal up of the second quarter I felt our intensity was a lot better, from that goal we started to get or game going and slowly worked our way back into the game.
The third quarter was where we made our move, kicking 4 goals to zero to take a 4 point lead. We started to use the ball better but credit to our midfield who got on top around the contest and we started to own some territory. The final quarter we started well but Central got the first goal on the board and it was game on, we rallied but when Central kicked a goal again at the 18 minute mark we needed to respond and we did, kicking the final 2 goals of the game to run out winners.
Best players on the day were Ted Clohesy, Kade Herbert and Jordan Lukac through the midfield, with Zak Buck kicking 3 goals to be our major goal kicker.
In a great weekend for the club, we went 5/5, winning U16s (their first win for the year), U18, Reserves, League and Women’s League. We also celebrated the 2006 Premiership team, and was great to see old teammates!!

Kieran Sankey reviews Round 9 Reserves vs Central District

A strong final quarter helped the Eagles secure a hard-fought 12.9 (81) to 9.7 (61) victory over Central District.

The game was a tight arm wrestle for much of the afternoon, with neither side able to gain complete control. Every time we were able to build some momentum and put a score on the board, Central District responded, ensuring the contest remained close throughout the first three quarters.

What was particularly pleasing was the group’s willingness to take the game on, embrace calculated risks and remain committed to our game plan. After a challenging month, it was rewarding to see the players continue to trust the process and stick to the principles that make us successful.

That commitment eventually proved the difference. Our ability to consistently apply pressure and execute our method allowed us to break the game open in the final quarter, where we kicked five goals to two to create the winning margin.

While there are still areas of our game that require improvement, it was encouraging to see a performance where we were able to sustain our brand of football for much longer periods than we have in recent weeks.

Charlie McGrath was outstanding on the wing, providing excellent support to both our offensive and defensive structures throughout the day. Jordan Tilbrook once again provided great drive from half-back, while Tate Delmenico, Patrick Toole and Zach Schwarz all produced their best performances of the season.

We now look forward to the challenge of taking on ladder leaders South Adelaide next week and testing ourselves against one of the competition’s benchmark sides.

Go Eagles!!!
